I forgot to report on the artist books in the beginning although I wanted to recap on who I though was inspiring. At Vernon Street John gave a presentation of his personal artist books as well as other artist who he was inspired by. While we were doing and exploring other artist books I was quite taken back at how simplistic the books were. Whether it was myself being use to published books covered with text and imagery, it was as though we were to explore another area of displaying our work. In a way allot of the books I saw had hidden messages. The books I typically was not draw to where the books filled with the same image such as the one John showed us where the photographs were printed on acetate with the same image throughout the book. I was draw to books which had more substance imagery I could be inspired by.
After the talk at Vernon Street I stayed behind and had a chance to view through the books in the display cabinet. There was one book which caught my eye and I really enjoyed going through. The book was created by Victoria Harley- Berlin, April 2005, Where the Wall was. The book was placed in a box divided between that and a small rock which appeared to be a piece of the Berlin wall. I loved the book because it had meaning, purpose and demonstrated the development of time. The little book unfolded in different directions to show the path of the Berlin wall. She illustrated where the wall was and had a picture to show where the wall is today. The box was contained in a small old fashion messenger package. It was really inspiring to see a way to creatively demonstrate history.
