i love mr philpotts work and how he uses the stitch from a sewing machine as a replacement for the lead and a pencil. I like the idea of using the sewing machine to draw with because it allows for more unpredicable results. He works alot with layering paper, sewing into them then tearing to reveal the various results, do have a peep at his website, www.nathanphilpott.co.uk!
